Dimitris Trimithiotis (research project coordinator)

Dimitris Trimithiotis is a lecturer in Journalism and Media at the Department of Social & Political Sciences at the University of Cyprus. His research is mainly located in the fields of media discourse, digital journalism, sociology of news and political communication. Through his research activity, he developed an innovative theoretical and methodological approach to media and journalism processes which focuses on the multilevel interdependencies and interrelations of media discourses with journalists, media-owners and sources. Confronting this framework to empirical research gave him the opportunity to contribute to central discussions in various sub-fields of journalism and media studies, notably: digitalisation of journalism, the coverage of European Union politics, party-journalism and self-reporting in political communication, digitality and peace journalism, training, values and work conditions of journalism. He is the conceptor of the Online Journalism Labservtory

Chris Voniati

Chris Voniati is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Cyprus. She holds a PhD in Communications and Media from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and has an academic background in political sciences (BA), critical theory and cultural studies (MA). Her PhD project explored the capacity of community media to generate alternative, agonistic representations of victimhood in regard to the Cyprus conflict, and whether such counterhegemonic frames and discursive representations can contribute to conflict transformation and to an ethos of non-violence. Prior to her doctoral studies, she worked as a journalist for five years - first as head of international news department in Politis, and then as political editor in Kathimerini.

Iacovos Ioannou

Iacovos Ioannou is a post-doc researcher at the Networks Research Laboratory of the University of Cyprus. He is also a Researcher at the Smart Networked Systems Research Group of the RISE Center. He holds a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Cyprus (2006), an MSc in Computer and Network Security from the Open University of Cyprus (2017) and a PhD from the University of Cyprus (2021), focusing on applying distributed AI/ML agents in communication networks. His research interests include mobile and wireless communications, next-generation networks (5G/6G) and Device-to-Device (D2D) communications using Artificial intelligence techniques. Iacovos is also a highly skilled developer with 20 years of hands-on working experience in the IT industry, ranging in the spectrum of IT systems from analysis, development, installation, and management. 

Theodosia Demetriou

Theodosia Demetriou is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Education at the University of Nicosia, a research associate at the University of Cyprus and a secondary school English language educator. She holds a PhD degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of the West of England, Bristol and her area of expertise is Language Testing and Assessment. Her research interests include vocabulary measurement, dimensions of vocabulary knowledge, language testing and assessment and language assessment literacy. 

Michael Tzionis

Michael Tzionis is a PhD Candidate in Sociology. He is a bachelor graduate from the University of Cyprus (2019) and holds an MSc Economy, Risk and Society (2020) from the LSE. Currently he is employed as a research assistant and special programs officer in the Department of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Cyprus. Michael is involved with the systematic observation and dissemination of the Labservatory data.

Erotokritos Erotokritou

Erotokritos Erotokritou received his BSc (2021) in Computer Science and is currently studying for his MSc at the University of Cyprus (2022). He is a software engineer with in-depth experience in web development. He contributed to the creation of the Labservatory.

Demetris Kaizer

Demetris Kaizer is a full-stack software developer with professional experience in web technologies.  He holds a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Cyprus (2021) and is currently studying for his MSc in the same field. He was involved with the development of the Labservatory.

Panikos Christou

Panikos Christou is a Computer Science Graduate and now a Data Science Master’s Student at the University of Cyprus (2022). He has assisted in the creation of the Labservatory website while being a part of Dr. Ioannou’s development team.

Stelios Chrysostomou

Stelios Chrysostomou  received his BSc (2022) in Computer Science of Univeristy of Cyprus. He is a specialist scientist with experience in web technologies. He was involved with the development of the Labservatory.
